Free things to do in OKC include park walks, free-admission museums and art walks, library storytimes, and seasonal outdoor events that do not charge a ticket. Food, parking, and optional purchases can still cost money. Ticketed light walks belong on the Christmas lights guide.

Parks and outdoor grounds

Scissortail Park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the children's playground open from dawn to dusk. Myriad Botanical Gardens outdoor grounds follow the same daily hours; Crystal Bridge Conservatory admission is separate and ticketed. The Oklahoma River trails and city park paths are free to walk most days. Check with the organizer for temporary closures after storms or special events.

Markets, art walks, and museums

Paseo First Friday Gallery Walk runs the first Friday each month from 6 to 9 p.m.; galleries keep extended hours and the street event is free. Oklahoma Contemporary lists exhibition admission as always free, with no ticket required for walk-in gallery visits. Oklahoma City Museum of Art offers free general admission on the second Sunday of each month; ages 17 and under are free every day. Farmers markets around the metro are free to enter when in season; vendors set their own prices.

Libraries and drop-in programs

Metropolitan Library System and Pioneer Library System branches post free storytimes and family programs on their calendars. Myriad Botanical Gardens runs Crafty Friday on the first and third Fridays, 10 to 11 a.m., in the Crystal Bridge south lobby; admission is free and donations are appreciated. Myriad in Motion free yoga meets on the outdoor grounds on published evenings; bring a mat and water, and confirm the next date on the gardens calendar.

Seasonal free displays this year

The Oklahoma City Tree Lighting Festival is Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mickey Mantle Plaza by Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Admission is free; the tree lights at 6 p.m. and stays up through New Year's Day. Red Earth Tree Fest opens the next day in the Bank First Tower lobby downtown and is free through the end of December, according to Visit OKC. The World Championship Quarter Horse Show at OKC Fairgrounds runs through Nov. 18, 2026, and spectator entry to watch competitions is free. Sparkle at Scissortail Park and Safari Lights at the Oklahoma City Zoo are ticketed; see the Christmas lights guide for those.

How we define free

Free means no required admission fee to enter the event, park, gallery, or display. Parking, food, photos, and vendor goods can still cost money. If a source says donation suggested, we note that and still treat entry as free unless a price is required. Check with the organizer when a seasonal schedule changes.

Notes

Start with a park walk or a free gallery day, then pick one seasonal stop you can confirm on the organizer’s page before you go.
